For a well-known auction house, I photographed this painting in the studio. Shortly after the shoot, the artwork was restored, and the photographs helped to carefully coordinate the restoration process.
For artwork photography, I work exclusively with studio lighting, color correction charts, and a calibrated monitor. This approach allows me to minimize color deviations and correct them as accurately as possible.
With painted artworks in particular, colors are unique and highly nuanced. Capturing them correctly is crucial. During post-processing of the raw image files, it is always remarkable to see the true depth and richness of the colors emerge.
I photographed this artwork primarily to document its current condition. For that reason, I captured detailed images of various sections of both the front and the back. In auction catalogues, artworks are often photographed less extensively, there simply isn’t space for that level of detail.
Would you like to have an artwork professionally documented for restoration, insurance, or auction purposes? With controlled lighting, accurate color reproduction, and close attention to detail, I carefully capture both its aesthetic qualities and technical condition. Feel free to get in touch to discuss how I can photograph your artwork with precision and reliability.
