At the end of January, a French company contacted me with the question whether I would like to participate in an ongoing project: photographing meals for the home delivery service Uber Eats. Their team had seen my hospitality interior photography and assumed I already had experience in this field.
Although I occasionally photograph dishes for websites, brochures, and menus, I received detailed instructions on what was expected for this assignment. Worldwide, the photography of takeaway dishes for Uber Eats must be executed in a consistent manner. Composition and the use of light play a particularly important role.
Before being allowed to photograph for Uber Eats, I was asked to produce a number of sample dishes according to their guidelines. My wife was almost enthusiastically on her way to the supermarket. By coincidence, however, Evelien from Sjiek aan de Amstel was busy working on her new website. I had previously created the hospitality interior photographs for her, and she wanted to showcase several dishes. I asked if she would be willing to help me prepare a few plates. The next afternoon, I was already able to get started at her location.
The morning after the shoot, I submitted the photographs for review. While uploading the images, I found myself craving all that delicious food, which I consider a good sign. The French team was very enthusiastic. So was Evelien. I am therefore looking forward to the next food photography assignment.
