For Studio Jeroen de Jong, I photographed a completed project for portfolio and reference purposes. The assignment involved the redesign of the retail space and the in-house office of Carpentier Mooren in Aalsmeer.
At the start of the photo session, I created a wishlist together with the architect. We discussed potential compositions and specific details to capture within the retail space and office. This approach worked very well: it quickly became clear that we both share a strong focus on detail. After photographing the designers’ initial ideas, there was room for additional concepts. Once the first strong images were made, a surge of creativity followed. As a result, far more photographs were ultimately usable than initially anticipated.
To mark the completion of the renovation, Carpentier Mooren organized a festive (re)opening. Although the store remained open during the renovation — and still is today — everything looked particularly polished for the celebration. An ideal moment for photography. However, I naturally wanted to limit the visibility of customers, staff, and suppliers within the images.
