Last week, I photographed custom-made furniture for marketing and reference purposes for the furniture maker; my youngest brother, Menno. A love for interiors and wooden furniture truly runs in our family.
After completing his studie at the Hout- en Meubileringscollege in Amsterdam, my youngest brother Menno started his own business and specialised in custom-made furniture. He has worked, among others, for Koninklijke De Vries Scheepsbouw and currently works for well-known furniture brands through various clients.
To show clients what else Menno creates, I photographed a selection of oak furniture pieces that give the interior of this home a warm, rustic character.
At the corners of the sideboard and display cabinet, you’ll find half-lap corner joints. This type of joint increases the glue surface, improving stability. It also gives the furniture a robust, honest appearance.
The solid doors open and close smoothly. Closing is always gentle thanks to the soft-close system, which slows the doors as they shut. The steel handles are a striking detail, creating a pleasing contrast with the warm look of the oak.
